MCA XI beat Sri Lanka!

Its great to see a state team pull off a victory against the visitors. Jaysaurya retired hurt and Murali was rested. Nevertheless, hats off to the MCA XI.

V. Mane touted as the next Sachin (can’t remember who said this) came good as did the other youngsters in the team, which is great news.

Ganguly fights back with a century!

Impressive! Nice to see Ganguly fight his way back to form. Considering that this Duleep trophy match was such a low scoring one, Ganguly deserves credit for his knock. It will be interesting to see if the selectors pick him after the first two ODIs.

Personally, I am not hugely in favor of having Ganguly in the ODI team especially if he were not the captain. Tests on the other hand is a different story. He might actually be an asset in the Test team against SL especially because he is a good player of spin. Murali is going to be hard to get away and I am pretty certain most of our batsman will struggle against him.

Conversation with my 2 year old

While driving my two year old kid to day care, a typical conversation goes something like this…

Kid: Papa, where we going?
Dad: To school.
Kid: Why?
Dad: Because you can have lots of fun….
Kid: Why Papa?
Dad: You’ll get bored at home
Kid: Why?
Dad: You won’t have anyone to play with at home…
Kid: Why?
Dad: eh.. eh…Because your sister has gone to her school
Kid: Why?
Dad: Because she wants to…
Kid: Why? Why does she wannu
Dad: Because its lots of fun…
Kid: Why?
Dad: She gets to play with her friends…
Kid: But why, Papa?
Dad: Because they all go to the same school…
Kid: Why?
Dad: Welll…eh..eh…its a good school…..Oh! look at that school bus.
Kid: Where, where Papa?
Dad: There, there…
Kid: Okaaay…I saw it.
Dad: Ok, your school is here.
Kid: But why?
Dad: Say Hi to Miss Heather….I gotta go, bye I’ll see you in the evening…

My understanding is that most kids this age act and behave like this. However as they grow older and get influnced by adults like me -(: they loose their persistence and curiosity. Is it just me or something about growing up and adults in general?

My Thai Restaurant in Fremont

My Thai Restaurant
34265 Fremont Blvd
Fremont, CA 94555
(510) 797-8980

The food here is awesome. Easily the best Thai food in the bay area in my opinion. This restaurant is very very popular among desis. The place is always crowded, even on weekday evenings.

The service is slow. But its worth the wait.

They have a wall of flame. The spice levels in the food can be mild, medium, hot, or fire. Order and complete eating the fire and your picture is immediately taken for the wall of flame.

They are closed on Mon and I think sometime on the weekend, Sun dinner (if I am not mistaken) . As for the prices you are looking at an average of $8 a dish at dinner time.

Govinda hung out with Dawood. So?

Saw the report that video footage of Govinda hangin out with Dawood was found. So what? What is surprising about that?

Dawood was openly shown at Sharjah cricket matches hanging out with actors, cricketers, politicians, Sheikhs etc. Behind the scenes he has been supposedly involved with film financing among other things. So why wouldn’t celebrities have been around this guy? I don’t see why that should automatically make them guilty in anyway.

Some time back there was a report about a bookie having attended Sachin’s wedding. It doesn’t mean Sachin was involved in match fixing! Thankfully that report died down.

Miers gets an “Incomplete”

The Supreme Court nomination of Harriet E. Miers suffered another setback on Wednesday when the Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee asked her to resubmit parts of her judicial questionnaire, saying various members had found her responses “inadequate,” “insufficient” and “insulting.”…..rest of the NYTimes report

I thought this story was pretty funny. Its like sending a kid’s homework back with an “I”. The irony is that after all this “hungamma” many of the same Senators will turnaround and confirm her eventually. In any case, it doesn’t look like she is anywhere as savvy as Judge Roberts, who in my opinion was real real smooth.

The number of appointments that a President of the US makes is simply phenomenal. This is one example where this system is flawed. Miers has little to show for besides being the President’s “chela” and she gets nominated for a lifetime appointment to the most powerful body in the US. Thankfully there is at least a confirmation process for whatever it is worth.

ICC World Series: A little too much Johnnie Walker?

The recently concluded World Series cricket between Australia and the Rest of the World was quite aptly called Johnnie Walker Super Series. Whoever came up with the idea for this series certainly had lots of Johnnie Walker before coming up with the idea and forgot to setup a few practice games for the World XI. Overall it was a pathetic show. The World XI was like a bunch of individuals hangin out because they were told to and paid to do so. No motivation whatsoever was evident on the part of the World team players. How else can you explain such a dismal show?

The Aussies on the other hand had plenty to play for after having lost the coveted Ashes. Warne was at his best. Brilliant to say the least. Muralitharan was superb. Barring a suspect action, this guy is a real genius. No one but he seems to know which way the ball will turn. His control, variation etc was simply phenomenal. His one over to Katich in the Australian second innings was truly legendary. The only one who could really read his bowling was Ponting. Though Hayden scored so many runs, he hardly looked comfortable against Murali. Boucher was a mistake, when Sangakkara, a good batsman and a perfect keeper for Murali was available. Inzy slept through the test. I never saw him speak to anyone of his team mates or to the opposition. He was always on the boundary line! Kallis’ batting reminded me of Yashpal Sharma (remember this guy?) — far from graceful, but very effective.
