Lalu Yadav, the Indian Railway minister is receiving a lot of kudos for turning around the Indian Railways. That’s quite an accomplishment for someone fro one of India’s most backward states. Now he is going to teach at IIM-A, India’s leading Management school!

But the railway turn-arounds have also left some weird decisions. Laloo introduced the use of clay pots in his first budget and banned the use of plastic bottles and cups. He said it would promote this traditional sector and also would slake the plastic threat! The next year, he withdrew this. The traditional industry was revived and the plastic threat diluted in a single year! š

The claypots decision is brilliant in its simplicity. He obviously has some smart advisors. He’s also a greedy and politically savvy guy. That would explain going back to the plastic cups. Some plastic company fellows must have paid him off. Prasad
