Ad lands Bhajji in trouble, Responds with Doosra

Bhajji appeared in ad without his turban. This has landed him in trouble with SGPC (Sikh org) . He apologized for hurting Sikh sentiments and criticized the SGPC for taking this issue up with the media. As a parting short, he also raised a very valid issue about Sikhs who have cut their hair! Its like saying, “Hey, at least I didn’t cut my hair, look at Yuvraj Singh, Gurdas Mann and others who have cut their hair and yet getting away with it. What do you have to say to them?” This does raise an important issue that the SGPC is going to find really hard to respond to. A true Bhajji doosra!

Google Youtube rumor

The recent rumor about a Google Youtube deal for 1.6B, simply stinks.

Pump in a bunch of money, drive traffic, hype, hype hype, then sell out. How is this different from dotcomm days apart from the fact that companies aren’t going public? Its the same Sequoia Capital folks on both Google and Youtube boards, making life a lot easier for the investors. The mania that caused the dotcomm crash is slowly being re-created without the public markets.

Fine, Google loves the traffic. But $1.6B for a company that has no technology to speak off, no viable business model, burns cash at over $1M a month, and has a bunch of copyright violating videos and lots of traffic. Hello? Are we back in 1998?

Pak Cricket in Shambles

Pak cricket and controversies go hand in hand. The Inzy-Hair scandal has barely settled down and the Younis Khan one follows. Not to mention the departure of Shaharyar Khan.

The biggest beneficiary of course is Mohd. Yousef. (there were rumors that he turned to Islam to earn the captaincy!). With Younis still in the team it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. The Champions Trophy has not started but the drama certainly has.

Bird Flu in Kerala?

The death toll from the attack of “chikungunya” (a viral disease spread through mosquitoes as reported in the Mercury New today) in Kerala seems to be on the increase. I am surprised that it has not yet made it to the Times of India. Saw this in
the Hindu. Its about time the Central Govt. got involved in providing the necessary support and assistance.

Foley’s Folly

Congressman Mark Foley’s mess seems to have taken a serious political turn with accusations that the House Speaker Dennis Hastert knew about it but was attempting a cover up. Another election eve scandal to keep Washington busy. Scandal mongers seem to be working over time to unearth scandals just on the eve of the elections. Wonder when the Democrats are going to hit by one to make it even!

Time for Ganguly to Quit

Its long overdue. Ganguly should retire. He can land a plum commentator slot for the Champions Trophy and possibly the World Cup. Its a pity that he didn’t go out in style. But to a large extent he has no one to blame besides himself. His failure in the challenger Series will hopefully convince him that its time bid adieu.

Mush on AQ Khan

Much has been said about the AQ Khan network over the years, especially since his “confession”. Its hard to imagine that he was able to act on his own without the approval of the various Pakistani heads of state. In all likelihood, when Musharraf was under extreme pressure from the US, he decided to make AQ Khan the scapegoat. Its good to know that a letter exists somewhere giving the gory details of those in high places who are involved in the scandal.

Mush’s latest book seems to have revived theories about AQ Khan and his activities. Nothing is likely to come out of it, except that Mush will sell more books. Man, talk about a world leader who knows his priorities!
